STATE COLLEGE, Pa. — The Centre Area Transportation Authority (CATA) has launched its next-generation bus-tracking system on its website, providing riders with significantly faster bus location updates.

The next-gen tracking, offered through CATA’s system map on its website, refreshes the bus location once every second.

While existing tools such as the myStop app and realtime.catabus.com are not yet capable of supporting the new refresh rate, they will continue to provide current updates at 30-second intervals and remain valuable for route alerts and other rider features.

“Our new next-generation tracking system gives CATA riders something we’ve never been able to offer before, which is to offer true real-time bus location information,” said CATA CEO Todd Horsley. “This is a new capability for CATA, developed in-house, and it’s just the beginning. We’re building toward even more convenient rider‑focused tools and technology updates, and we’re excited for what’s coming down the road.”

To use the new next-gen tracker, visit the system maps page on CATA’s website at catabus.com/SystemMap.
