CATA’s Bike Policy
CATA vehicles are equipped with front-mounted bike racks. Bikes are allowed on exterior racks only. No full-size bikes inside buses.
Folding bikes: Allowed inside if folded, clean, and don’t block aisles/doors.
E-bikes: Battery-powered bicycles (e-bikes) are permitted on bike racks as long as they fit securely. No charging on buses.
E-scooters/e-mobility devices: Not bicycles; allowed only if covered by ADA mobility device policies. Recreational scooters are generally not allowed.
Priority & safety: Wheelchairs and strollers have priority inside the bus. Operators may refuse boarding if unsafe. Riders load/unload bikes themselves and ride at their own risk.
Operational limits: First-come, first-served. No bikes on racks during special conditions (e.g., damaged rack, or extreme weather, if advised).
Liability: Agency is not responsible for damage/theft to bikes on racks.
The 2-position racks will accommodate two-wheeled bicycles with a wheel size of 16” or larger.
The 3-position racks will accommodate two-wheeled bicycles with wheel sizes from 30” to 29.”
Keep these simple steps in mind when using a mounted bike rack:
- Stand by your bike at the bus stop so the operator knows you intend to board • Tell the bus operator you’ll be loading your bike
- Remove loose items from your bike, such as water bottles, pumps, and bags
- Load and unload your bike from the curb or in front of the bus
- Raise and secure the support arm over the top of the tire
- As you approach your stop, remind the operator that you’ll be unloading your bike
Remember that you are responsible for your bike. The bus/van operator is not permitted to assist you with loading or unloading your bike.
