CATA Selected for Pilot Test of New Real-Time Bus Information Signs
STATE COLLEGE, Pa. —
The Centre Area Transportation Authority (CATA) has been selected by Avail Technologies, a State College–based company and longtime technology partner, to pilot a new style of real‑time bus information signs.
Twenty signs will be installed at bus stops throughout the region as part of Avail’s development and testing process. The pilot test is expected to last six months and will help Avail refine new tools to improve access to real‑time transit information.
As prototype signs being tested, they do not yet include branding or instructional details, but they are part of an approved pilot program and are safe for riders to use.
Riders can scan the QR code or tap their phone to access real-time bus information. Devices with GPS enabled will be directed to stop‑specific updates; others will be shown the CATA system map.
“CATA and Avail Technologies have a long history of working together, and we are happy to assist this hometown partner with its efforts to pilot new ways to provide riders with real-time bus information at their stop, which is when it is most needed," said CATA CEO Todd Horsley.
