Lemont/Houservile CATAGO! Zone

The Centre Area Transportation Authority (CATA) is excited to announce the expansion of its CATAGO! service with the introduction of the new Lemont and Houserville CATAGO! zone, effective from July 1st, 2024. CATAGO! will provide service to the Lemont area from Monday to Friday, with operating hours from 6:00 am to 8:00 pm, and on Saturdays from 9:00 am to 8:00 pm. The average waiting time will be 8-10 minutes, and the service will offer curb-to-curb transportation.

Along with expanded CATAGO! service in Lemont, the College Connector (CC) route will continue to run Monday through Friday with a frequency of 54 minutes until 10 p.m.

It's important to note that this is a pilot program. This trial zone may be subject to change after further information is collected and evaluated.

Expanding Coverage: CATAGO! now extends its services not only to Lemont, but also to areas like Houserville where public transit options are currently lacking. This means that not only the residents of Lemont will continue to have access to CATAGO!'s services, but also many other people who were previously outside the range of bus services can now travel to and from Lemont for work, shopping, dining, etc. Also, CATAGO! provides destination points to the South Atherton area, which provides additional connections to the AC for downtown.

Optimal Stop Placement: CATAGO! adjusts stop distances based on suburban density and road complexity, ensuring convenient intervals and reducing walking distances, which is crucial in areas like Lemont with challenging elevations.

 

Enhanced Accessibility: CATAGO! prioritizes creating routes and stops that cater to individuals with disabilities, health conditions, the elderly, expectant mothers, and families with young children, addressing a crucial gap in areas with limited sidewalk infrastructure.

 

Efficiency in Lower Density Areas: CATAGO! provides suitable and efficient public transportation options for lower density areas, ensuring better service for these communities.

 

Meeting Demand Where It's Highest: CATAGO! focuses on addressing the needs in higher density areas, ensuring a strategic and thoughtful approach to public transit.

 

Addressing Operator Shortages: CATAGO! presents an innovative solution to maintain service levels without compromising on accessibility or convenience during times of operator shortages.
