CATA is currently recruiting for a Director of Transportation

The Director of Transportation position reports to the Assistant General Manager for Operations and participates as a member of the Executive Management Team. The Director supervises approximately 175 employees and directs the day-to-day operational oversight for the Transportation Division including development and implementation of policies, procedures, and practices, as well as activities related to fixed route bus transportation, bus and facility maintenance, project management of capital projects, and administration of the collective bargaining agreement. Starting salary for this position will be between $80,000 and $90,000.

Facilities Person (2nd or 3rd Shift)

• Clean and disinfect restrooms on a regular basis.
• Dust/wipe clean; tables, desks, base boards, light fixtures and HVAC vents etc.
• Routinely inspect and replenish paper towel, tissues and soap dispensers.
• Sweep and damp mop vinyl composition tile and other hard floors.
• Vacuum carpeted floors and entry mats including offices, hallways and communal spaces on a regular basis.
• Maintain building grounds, including weeding, mulching, trimming, mowing, snow removal and trash pickup.
• Perform periodic inspections and preventative maintenance on facility systems such as interior and exterior lighting, electrical, plumbing, gas detection, lubrication and other related equipment.
• Ability to lift and carry objects weighing up to 50 pounds and periodically up to 80 pounds with assistance. Required to bend, kneel, crouch, reach or climb ladders.

Data Analyst

The Data Analyst position is a newly formed position which reports to the Director of Information Services and will develop and maintain the business intelligence systems, process improvement and performance metrics of the Authority. The position will be responsible for data integrity and identification of trends through the creation of performance improvement programs and performance metrics. The position will also support the Authority’s databases, working with a variety of staff and departments to maintain that data, and take a pivotal role in the creation of standard reporting and ad hoc data analysis.

The Data Analyst candidate must possess excellent judgment and professional ethics to work in a fast-paced environment. Training mechanisms will be comprehensive and may include traditional instruction-led classroom training, self-directed computer-based training and hands-on training on sub-system training fixtures.
This position requires experience in the field of transportation and an individual with excellent judgment and professional ethics in a fast-paced, high pressure environment. This individual must be able to professionally communicate with a variety of people including employees, co-workers, vendors and federal and state officials.

  1. • Conducts classroom and individualized training on all aspects of equipment and vehicle repair, testing and maintenance;
    • Provides hands-on demonstration in the repair and maintenance of various components of bus systems;

    • Serves as technical expert for troubleshooting maintenance problems;

Bus Cleaner (Hours of work will be between 6:00pm – 9:00am)

• Cleans interior of CATA vehicles, includes sweeping and mopping bus floors, dusting seats;
• Cleans exterior of CATA vehicles, utilizing a mechanical bus washer when available;
• Cleaning glass windows, doors and mirrors, washing of all window casings and tracks;
• Cleans all chrome railing materials, straps and driver areas;
• Vacuuming and cleaning of all upholstery using the appropriate cleaning equipment;
• Cleaning of light fixtures and washing down all interior surfaces including walls, seat bases, vent casings;
• Empty all trash from the vehicle; replace trash bags;
• Restock vehicles with supplies, as needed; verifying that service vehicles are amply stocked with supplies and supplies are properly requisitioned and recorded;
• Turn in all lost and found articles to dispatch as outlined in CATA policy;
• Properly maintain and clean equipment and work areas at the end of each shift;
• Keeps storage and work areas clean at all times;
• Drives, maneuvers and parks vehicles with demonstrated skills;
• Reports all maintenance issues to Supervisors;
• Maintains knowledge of fixed route operations; should the regular Bus Operator position become short staffed, the Bus Cleaner will be assigned to drive a fixed route and fulfill the functions of a Bus Operator, as needed;
• May, on demand, be required to switch out buses with in-service buses that require a return to the shop/maintenance area;
• Ability to project a positive image of a Bus Operator and of CATA services;

The Safety and Training Manager is responsible for directing and guiding the workforce towards safe behaviors and fostering a culture of safety. This position manages the operations and activities of the safety programs by providing strategic support to all departments throughout the Authority. The Safety and Training Manager implements departmental strategic objectives, develops and provides direction and content for employee safety programs, consistent with department and Authority goals and objectives. This position develops and implements professional workforce safety programs, tracks training for personnel requiring commercial driver’s license, develops customized training for operating and non-operating divisions (such as Fatigue Awareness, Human Trafficking, etc.) and emergency response programs/plans.

• Investigates, reports and manages Worker’s Compensation injuries, collisions and incidents in compliance with SAFTI standards; recommends corrective action as appropriate.
• Manages light duty, return to work (Fitness for Duty), refresher training, and retraining programs.
• Maintains required employee DOT documentation for all safety sensitive positions, including but not limited to medical certifications, CDL licenses and renewals, background checks and drug screens.

Dispatcher

• Builds daily Bus Operator schedules and produces multiple revisions of the schedule, as Operator availability dictates, utilizing specialized proprietary software, while adhering to the scheduling process under the Collective Bargaining Agreement.
• Act as a communication liaison to ensure adherence to scheduled routes, provide route instructions, reroute Operators when necessary and assist Bus Operators in the resolution of challenges encountered en route.
• Conducts daily audits of all driver schedules to adjust allocation of hours for timekeeping and payroll accuracy.
• Utilizes two-way radio to communicate with Operators, and to respond to, and monitor radio transmissions.
• Coordinates bus switch-outs and driver relief, based on mechanical or personnel needs.
• Prepares route detours and information as needed; posts public messages regarding detours; redirects drivers due to traffic delays, road construction, and vehicle accidents; communicates pertinent information to Customer Service Center.
• Receives and responds to overflow and after hour calls for Customer Service Center.
• Communicates with emergency services and law enforcement related to disabled vehicles or accidents, public health or safety concerns and changing road conditions.
• Approves or denies drivers’ leave requests and allocates the use of paid time off, as outlined in the Collective Bargaining Agreement.
• Initiates the collaboration between the Maintenance Department and Operations Supervisors to resolve mechanical issues and optimize daily operations.
• Regular attendance is an essential function of this job.
